Sectional Coaching at LYS

Sectional coaches are an important part of the Longmont Youth Symphony experience. Throughout each concert cycle, professional musicians and music educators work with students in smaller instrument-specific groups, providing focused instruction on technique, ensemble skills, and the repertoire students are preparing for performance.

Sectionals take place during our regular Monday evening rehearsals at Westview Middle School in Longmont.

Sectional Areas

LYS is currently looking for sectional coaches for the following instruments:

  • Violin

  • Viola

  • Cello

  • Bass

  • Low Strings (Cello & Bass)

  • Flute

  • Clarinet

  • Trumpet (High Brass)

  • Trombone (Low Brass)

  • Percussion

Sectional Schedule

Longmont Youth Prelude String Ensemble (LYPSE) & Longmont Youth String Ensemble (LYSE)
5:30–7:00 p.m.
LYPSE and LYSE students combine by instrument/section for sectional coaching.

Longmont Youth Symphonic Band (LYSB)
6:00–7:00 p.m.
Students work in instrument-specific or family-based sections.

Longmont Youth Symphony Orchestra (LYSO)
7:15–8:30 p.m.
Students work in instrument-specific or family-based sections.

Compensation

Sectional coaches are compensated $50 per service.

A combined LYPSE/LYSE sectional is considered one service ($50), and an LYSO sectional is considered one service ($50). A string coach working both the LYPSE/LYSE and LYSO sectionals on the same evening receives $100 for the evening.

LYSB sectional coaches are compensated $50 per service.

Coaching with LYS

Coaches do not need to commit to the entire season. We coordinate availability by concert cycle, and professional musicians and educators are welcome to coach as many or as few available dates as their schedules allow.

Before each sectional, coaches receive the appropriate ensemble music and information regarding repertoire, passages, or skills that the Music Director would like emphasized.
